The third among the 114 Surahs in the Qur’an is Surah Al-Imran. The Surah contains 200 verses in total. It was revealed in Medina and thus attributed also to the Madani Surah. Characters in the Surah

The family of Imran is central to this Surah according to traditions, especially in its first part, where Allah directly announces their honour.

Indeed, Allah chose Adam and Noah and the family of Abraham and the family of Imran for all the worlds, some of them above others, and Allah is Hearing and Knowing.

After this, the Surah tells the story of Imran’s wife dedicating her children to the worship and service of Allah. The birth of Maryam, her miraculous upbringing under Zakariya, and the stories leading to the miraculous birth of Jesus are also narrated.

What are the benefits and lessons of Surah Al-Imran?

Some of the benefits of reciting Surah Al Imran are as follows:

Imam Nawawi (may Allah have mercy on him) said that it was called this because of its light, its guidance and the greatness of its matter, i.e. everything that shades and prevents the heat of the sun. The word Furqan means two parts. This means that the reward of the two Surahs of Surah Al Baqarah and Al Imran will shade the servant on the Day of Judgment. Recite this Surah on Friday so that you can get more reward and protection from Allah, and the angels will continue to pray for forgiveness from Allah for you until the evening.

الٓمٓ ١

Alif-Lãm-Mĩm.

ٱللَّهُ لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ٱلْحَىُّ ٱلْقَيُّومُ ٢

Allah is the only One worthy of worship, the Ever-Living, the Self-Sustaining.

نَزَّلَ عَلَيْكَ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ بِٱلْحَقِّ مُصَدِّقًۭا لِّمَا بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ وَأَنزَلَ ٱلتَّوْرَىٰةَ وَٱلْإِنجِيلَ ٢

He has sent down to you the Book with the truth, confirming what came before it, just as He sent down the Torah and the Gospel.

مِن قَبْلُ هُدًۭى لِّلنَّاسِ وَأَنزَلَ ٱلْفُرْقَانَ ۗ إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ بِـَٔايَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِ لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ ٱللَّهِ لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ عَزِيزٌۭ ذُو ٱنتِقَامٍ ٤

And He sent down before it a guidance for mankind and a criterion for distinguishing between right and wrong. Indeed, those who reject the verses of Allah will be in severe torment. Indeed, Allah is All-Mighty, All-Wise.

إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يَخْفَىٰ عَلَيْهِ شَىْءٌۭ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَلَا فِى ٱلسَّمَآءِ ٥

Indeed, nothing in the heavens or the earth is hidden from Allah.

هُوَ ٱلَّذِى يُصَوِّرُكُمْ فِى ٱلْأَرْحَامِ كَيْفَ يَشَآءُ ۚ لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلْحَكِيمُ ٦

He is the One who shapes you in the wombs of your mothers as He wills. There is no one worthy of worship except Him. He is the Almighty, the Wise.

What are the miracles of Surah Al-Imran?

In Surah Al-Imran, many miracles of Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him) are also highlighted. In verse 49 of this Surah, Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him) says:

I create for you from clay the form of birds, then I breathe into them and they become birds by Allah’s command. I heal the blind and the lepers, and I bring the dead to life by Allah’s command.

The interesting thing is that wherever such great miracles occur, they change the system of nature, such as creating someone, healing the sick or bringing the dead to life, the word bi adhan-i-Allah, meaning by Allah’s command, is definitely used. This shows that all this power was from Allah. But when it was said that Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him) used to tell people even the things they used to hide in their houses, this phrase is not used. 

This means that this knowledge was given to him directly by Allah. It was not a work that changed the system of nature like the miracles of creation. This point makes it clear that Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him) was a prophet of Allah. They were not Gods; Allah had given them knowledge, not power.

What does Surah Al-Imran do?

Surah Al-Imran addresses the People of the Book, while Surah Al-Baqarah appeals more to the Jews. This Surah corrects the Christians. This Surah corrects misconceptions about the Trinity, the divinity of Jesus and Mary. It clearly refutes the claims of the preachers about the birth of Jesus, the upbringing of Jesus, and religious beliefs. This Surah encourages Muslims to think critically and speak to others with reason and dignity. It guides to patience, unity, and the worship of Allah alone. It also includes lessons from war, the story of the Imran family, and practical life principles that make faith more realistic.
